Book Review: 2/5 Impact On Me (Book By John Whalen)

I rate this book 2 out of 5 for impact on me. I already knew most of the information. You need to listen to your customers' needs and to similar customers' needs. Then you go from there.

This book reinforced my belief about segmentation. Don't base segmentation on demographics. Base it on needs instead. You realize this after a few interviews.

I liked the book's recommendation to aim for 24 interviews. That sounded like a concrete number to go after. I would have been happy with 5 or 10 interviews to start with. You start getting similar information after a few interviews. This happens unless you go to different segments.

I loved how the book had examples of user research. The examples contrasted person A versus person B. This made the concepts clear.

I found one recommendation novel. You should sit 90 degrees to your participant when they use a computer screen. You sit 90 degrees from them so you can see their expressions. You can see what their eyes are doing. You can see what is happening on the screen. This position lets you observe everything at once.
