I read this book in 2023 and recently listened to it again. it was interesting to hear about the author's experiment of going to a remote place without his phone. but, his test wasn't accurate. He aimed to test life without a smartphone. but he tested a life without friends, family, smartphone, or work. As a techno-optimist, I wasn't impressed when the author criticized the screen-time / time-tracking / distraction-blocking features of tech companies. I'm not fond of suggestions for government regulations or the idea of social networks charging subscription fees. i like to read books about what i can do, not what i should hope government will do. Despite this, the book offers valuable insights into recognizing internal triggers for distraction and understanding the cycle of cues and rewards in habits.
